QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge. Knowledge is mandatory of: oral and dental anatomy; fundamentals of physiology; dental therapeutics; sterile techniques; emergency dental care; oral hygiene; dental materials; instruments; dental treatment room procedures; medicines; systemic diseases; oral prophylaxis techniques; dental health programs; infection control procedures; dental administration; budgeting; equipment maintenance requirements; and physical properties of dental materials.
Education. Completion of high school with courses in biology and chemistry is desirable. Completion of a dental assistant course is mandatory.
Experience. The following experience is mandatory:
Experience in functions such as taking dental radiographs, maintaining dental equipment, performing oral prophylaxis procedures, and assisting dental officer in patient treatment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge. Knowledge is mandatory of: oral anatomy and physiology; inorganic chemistry; metallurgy fundamentals; dental laboratory technology; dental material physical and chemical properties; dental laboratory equipment and maintenance; sterile techniques; and administration.
Education. For entry into this specialty, completion of high school with courses in biology and chemistry is desirable. Completion of a dental laboratory course is mandatory.
Experience. Experience fabricating prosthodontic restorations including fixed gold and porcelain fused to metal, and denture and orthodontic appliance fabrications. Also, experience performing and supervising functions such as fabricating and repairing dental prostheses and appliances.

QUALIFICATIONS
For entry into this specialty, a doctor of dental surgery or a doctor of dental medicine degree from an American Dental Association accredited college or university is mandatory.
Each provider shall have and maintain an active, valid unrestricted, current dental license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) in a US jurisdiction. License must correspond to DEA registration number.
Possess a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number in order to write prescriptions for controlled substances.
Have and maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
As a minimum, the dentist shall have one (1) year of experience following graduation. Each dentist shall be performing clinical dentistry for at least 12 out of the last 18 months.

Doctor of Dental Surgery-DDS
|

QUALIFICATIONS
For entry into this specialty, a doctor of dental surgery or a doctor of dental medicine degree from an American Dental Association accredited college or university is mandatory.
Each provider shall have and maintain an active, valid unrestricted, current dental license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) in a US jurisdiction. License must correspond to DEA registration number.

Training. The following training is mandatory as indicated:
Completion of an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program or equivalent acceptable to the Surgeon General, HQ USAF.
As a minimum, the dentist shall have one (1) year of experience following graduation. Each dentist shall be performing clinical dentistry for at least 12 out of the last 18 months.

Education: Provider shall hold a doctor of dental surgery (DDS) or a doctor of dental medicine (DMD) degree from an American Dental Association accredited college or university.
License: Provider shall have and maintain an active, valid unrestricted, current dental license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) in a US jurisdiction. License must correspond to DEA registration number.
Possess a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number in order to write prescriptions for controlled substances.
Have and maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Training: Provider must have completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery, acceptable to the Surgeon General, HQ USAF.
Experience: As a minimum, the oral and maxillofacial surgeon shall have one (1) year of experience following graduation from the residency training program. The surgeon shall have performed oral and maxillofacial surgery, including extraction of impacted third molars with IV conscious sedation, for at least 12 out of the last 18 months.

SUMMARY. Examines, diagnoses, and treats diseases and destructive processes of investing hard and soft tissues of teeth. Supports the dental health program. Directs periodontic service. Related DoD Occupational Group: 260307.
2 QUALIFICATIONS.
2.1 Education. For entry into this specialty, a doctor of dental surgery or a doctor of dental medicine degree from an American Dental Association accredited college or university is mandatory.
2.2 Training. Completion of a residency in periodontics, acceptable to the Surgeon General, HQ USAF, is mandatory.
2.3 Experience. At least 24 months of experience within the last 36 months.

QUALIFICATIONS
The dental hygienist shall meet the following minimum qualifications:
Knowledge. Knowledge is mandatory of: oral prophylaxis, preliminary periodontal examinations involving diagnostic tests and x-rays, oral health education, preparation of treatment plans for plaque control, and application of topical fluorides and desensitizing agents to the teeth. Additionally, the position requires planning, conducting, and evaluating preventive dental health programs. The position of dental hygienist requires a knowledge of the concepts, techniques, and procedures of dental hygiene. Education. The dental hygienist shall be a graduate of an ADA accredited dental hygiene school.
Licensure/Registration. The dental hygienist shall possess a valid license to practice dental hygiene from a United States (US) jurisdiction, state, or territory.
Experience. As a minimum, the dental hygienist shall have a minimum of 1 year of experience following graduation from dental hygiene school. Dental Hygienist shall be capable of performing the full range of dental hygiene services commensurate with a general dental hygienist. In addition, each dental hygienist shall have been performing clinical dental hygiene services during 12 of the last 36.
Continuing Dental Education (CDE) Requirements. Dental hygienist shall complete 20 hours of CDE per year. Continuing professional education activities recognized by the ADA and its constituent and component societies, dental specialty organizations and boards, and organizations recognized by the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) are acceptable. CDE under the direction of the MTF/DTF is recognized by the AGD and needs no further approval. CDE shall be obtained at no additional cost to the government and shall be reported to the Quality Assurance Evaluator (QAE) annually on the first normal duty day in January for the previous calendar year. CDE shall be conducted at the MTF/DTF and may be available, at no cost, to any dental assistants consistent with policies established by the MTF/DTF Commander.
